3 Ways To Capture Your Ideas

3 Ways To Capture Your Ideas

Michele Duwe from Miss Task | 3 Ways To Capture Your Ideas For Online Business Owners

Stop letting your best ideas slip through the cracks! Stop it. I mean it. Stop scribbling down all your ideas on little pieces of random paper, sticky notes, in your planner, or in your notebook. If it was important enough to write down, it is important enough to ensure it doesn’t get misplaced. One simple way to do this is with a dedicated space that storages all those ideas. Here are 3 ways to capture your ideas for safekeeping.

Why You Need A Trusted Process to Capture Your Ideas

Your mind has enough to do without having to deal with trying to remember where you wrote down your last big idea for your online business. I'm not sure about you, but I’m not a fan of waking up at 2 A.M. to the idea resurfacing in my brain again. Worst yet, if it never surfaced again. I think you’ll agree when I say it feels so frustrating.

All you really remember is it was genius, and it struck you when you had a clear mind. You have that inner knowing that you put it someplace, but where exactly?

Your mind begins to race, wondering what you were doing when the idea struck. That could help you figure out where you captured your idea. Were you out for a walk? Were you sleeping? Was it after your meditation?

Rethinking Your Idea Capture Strategy: From Sticky Notes to Digital Organization

Are you often surrounded by a pile of sticky notes, random pieces of paper, or notebooks filled with ideas, tasks, and reminders? If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Many of us start with these quick-fix methods for capturing thoughts. I, for one, have a deep love for sticky notes. They're my go-to when I'm in a hurry. But let's face it, these methods have their downsides.

While sticky notes and scribbles in notebooks might feel convenient at the moment, they often lead to a bigger issue: the endless search for that one brilliant idea you know you jotted down somewhere. This scattered approach can be more of a hindrance than a help, causing you to spend more time hunting for ideas than actually bringing them to life.

To tackle this, I've developed a simple yet effective process. My sticky notes and any other paper-based ideas go in one spot – piled neatly by my inbox. But they don't stay there. Regularly, I transfer these ideas into my digital idea bank. For my ideas, I use Notion. This system ensures that no idea gets lost in the shuffle and everything is easily located when I need it

Transform Your Idea Capturing: 3 Ways To Capture Your Ideas

Imagine, friend, never losing track of your brilliant ideas again. I’m here to walk you through 3 ways to capture your ideas in a digital method that will keep you organized. No more spending your precious time looking for your ideas!

Say goodbye to the days of frantic searching and hello to a process where your ideas are always at your fingertips – because, let’s face it, as busy entrepreneurs, our phones are practically extensions of ourselves.

All 3 of these digital solutions are not just convenient; they’re game-changers in the way you manage and capture your ideas.

Michele Duwe from Miss Task | 3 Ways To Capture Your Ideas For Online Business Owners

One: Notion

Starting with Notion, this tool might seem a bit advanced at first, but it's incredibly useful. I use Notion as a central hub for almost all my ideas for business and personal use. It's versatile, allowing for project management, task tracking, and more. The best part? You can customize it to your liking, adding a personal touch to your idea organization and making it pretty. If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you’ll already know I like pretty.

For inspiration on how to organize your life and ideas with Notion, Muchelle B's YouTube video is a great resource. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/4WDspvXDKSg

Download Notion for free to try it out. Here is the link: https://www.notion.so/product

Two: Project Management Application

You guessed it, the second recommendation is in your project management software.

I can almost hear you thinking, that's great. Which one? If you’ve tried to implement a project management software in the past but failed, maybe it wasn’t the right one for you. Book a Content Creation Simplified Session; we can figure it out together. Here is the link: https://misstask.com/mini-session

As an Online Business Manager, I’ve used a wide variety of Project Management apps. The three most common have been Asana, Trello, and Teamwork.

In my experience, if you’ve not used a project management application, Asana, Trello, and Teamwork are fantastic options.

If you already have project management, a great place to add a space for ideas is under your company dashboard.

And now, in case you’re wondering what is a company dashboard, this is one central location for all your company resources, such as brand guide, mission, core values, offers, workflows, link bank, story bank, the list goes on and on. It is the information hub of your business.

Three: Note-Taking Apps – GoodNotes, Apple Notes App, and Google Keep

The last on our list of idea-capturing tools are note-taking apps, each offering a unique way to store your thoughts digitally.

GoodNotes is an amazing app that you can use across multiple platforms. Create an Ideas Notebook that syncs across devices. It’s a great way to keep all your ideas in one place; plus, if you have an iPad and Pencil, you can use this app as a digital notebook. Create an ideas notebook and start to capture your ideas electronically.

Apple Notes App for simplicity and convenience. The Notes app is the go-to app for all Apple users. Try creating an ‘Ideas' folder within the app for easy retrieval of your thoughts from any of your Apple devices. A quick tip: on your Mac, moving your cursor to the lower right corner instantly opens a new note – a feature I find incredibly handy. I love simple things.

Google Keep is another simple application to capture your ideas.

One way Google Keep is a huge time saver for the Duwe household is that it is the central location for your shopping lists. The feature I love is that it stores all the items from previous checklists. Once you begin typing, it pops up for easy addition. For this reason, I prefer Google Keep over Notes for our shopping list.

Whoever goes to the store knows exactly what we need to buy. For us, this works awesome. It's much easier than the paper list hanging on the side of the fridge.

Remember, the key is to find what works best for you. These tools are all about working smarter, not harder, and keeping all your valuable ideas in one easily accessible place.

Each offers a unique way to ensure your brilliant ideas are organized and easily available, transforming the way you manage and execute your ideas. Remember, the goal is to work smarter, not harder. Say goodbye to overwhelming email automation and hello to beautifully designed, automated emails that will help you connect with your audience and grow your business!

Why did you start your online business?

Yes, I know I ask more questions than a three-year-old, but it is for a good reason. You see, why you started your online business need to be strong enough to get you through the periods when you feel scattered, overwhelmed, and overworked. Running an online business is not for the faint of heart.

I’ve circled back to my why more than I care to admit. For anyone that doesn’t know my story, before starting my business, I was a sales representative that traveled for work 75% of the time, feeling like a stranger in my own home for a job that did not feel rewarding or impactful.

For me, it is the freedom to be present for my family while building a business that feels like I’m making an impact and supporting another business owner’s dreams.

What I’ve discovered is this same why is so true for many online business owners and coaches.

The never-ending bits and bots of creative content

Unfortunately, I’ve heard from many of you that the neverending bits and bots of creative content leave you overwhelmed and overworked.

Building your email list is one way to avoid burnout from content creation. I know what you’re thinking, creating a welcome flow email series has zero appeal to you, or perhaps you’ve made one before that generated little traffic.

If you’d like an easier way to engage with your potential clients, it’s time to leverage the power of automation to connect quickly with your new subscribers. With Flodesk, you can easily create an automated welcome email series that will make a great first impression for all new subscribers.

Are you procrastinating on building your email list?

There could be a variety of reasons why business owners and mindset coaches might procrastinate on building an email list. I’ve heard a lot of reasons; here are the most common, and I’m curious as to which bucket you fall into.

  • Lack of understanding or knowledge about how to build an email list effectively.
  • Feeling overwhelmed or unsure about what content to include in your emails.
  • Fear of failure or rejection from potential subscribers.
  • Prioritizing other tasks or responsibilities over building an email list. (cough, cough, social media)
  • Believing that email marketing is no longer an effective method of reaching clients.

Do you have a different reason for procrastinating on creating your welcome flow email series? Please know that whatever the reason, know that you’re not alone.

Why building an email list is necessary for the success of your online business.

Most people don’t realize that building an email list is essential for the success of an online business because it allows you to communicate directly with your target audience and build relationships with them.

Some key benefits of building an email list include

  • Increased client retention: Email marketing helps keep your business top-of-mind with your clients, leading to increased sales and repeat business. I can tell you for a fact that the marketing emails that come in from my current coach and my past coaches always get read.
  • Cost-effective: Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to reach and engage your target audience.
  • Personalization: Email marketing allows you to personalize your message and tailor your content to specific segments of your audience, which can lead to higher engagement and conversion rates.
  • Direct communication: Emails are a direct line of communication with your clients, which allows you to easily update them on new services, sales promotions, and other helpful information.
  • Increased website traffic: Email marketing campaigns can drive more traffic to your website, increasing your visibility, leading to more sales, and helping to grow your business.
  • Additionally, having an email list gives you the ability to reach out to your audience even if social media platforms or search engines algorithm change. This way, you have control over your audience, and you can reach out to them directly.

Connecting Flodesk to your site.

If you’re a new user of Flodesk, the first step to creating an automated welcome email is connecting Flodesk to your site. It is as simple as copying and pasting a bit of code into your website's header.

Depending on your WordPress theme, most make it pretty simple these days.

This will allow for a popup for your visitors, and yes, they do work.

Flodesk makes it easy for you and new subscribers.

Basically, this will automatically enable your new subscribers to be added to the list once they’ve signed up. After you've connected Flodesk with your site, it's time to create a message that will be sent out whenever someone subscribes from your site.

Creating a Flodesk email automation is simple.

Flodesk has an online university that walks you through creating a welcome flow email series. Here is the link to watch that training! https://university.flodesk.com/what-are-workflows

Write out the messages in your welcome flow email series.

Your welcome message should be warm, friendly, and inviting. Start by thanking your subscribers for joining your list. After all, think of this as a new client walking through the front door of your business. When I worked at Victoria's Secret years ago, every customer walking through needed to be greeted almost immediately.

You should also give them an idea of what they can expect to receive from you. Such as new product updates, helpful blog posts, exclusive discounts, and offers – and how often they'll hear from you. Be sure to add your contact details if anyone has questions about their subscription so they know who to reach out to.

Craft a killer subject line.

The subject line of your automated welcome message should pique curiosity and hint at what’s to come.

Brainstorming ideas such as: “Welcome to!”, “Grateful you’re here,” or “Get ready for the great stuff ahead.”

Keep it short and sweet but set the tone with an introduction to yourself, your brand, and your personality in the subject line to encourage subscribers to open it.

Pretty Email Automation

One of the best features is the beautiful email templates. Flodesk offers an extensive library of beautifully designed templates to choose from so that you can create a framework for your email in no time.

Each template has been professionally designed by their in-house design team and is entirely customizable with drag-and-drop elements such as logos, images, text frames, social media links, fun gifs, and so much more!

You also have the option to upload your photo, graphics, and brand fonts if you want to customize Flodesk further.

Set it and send it.

Set up triggers to send the automated email. Now that you have designed your automated welcome email, you will need to create triggers to send it.

In Flodesk, this is a simple process – just click on the Automations tab and select a trigger. Several types of triggers are available, including when someone signs up for your newsletter list or makes a purchase from your store. Select the desired trigger and then set up the message's delivery time – it can be sent out immediately or delayed for later. You’re all done!

How much is Flodesk, and is it worth it?

Flodesk pricing starts at $35 per month when billed annually, which includes all features and integrations. One of those features is unlimited subscribers, you may be wondering. This is not necessarily the case for all email service providers.

Is Flodesk worth it for a growing online business? Yes! With Flodesk, members are never penalized for successfully growing their lists. Subscriptions are $38/month for unlimited email sends, unlimited subscribers, and unlimited access to all features.

Hello, and welcome to part two of our goal-setting series. In part two we're going to talk about your why. Did you read the post from last week yet? The previous blog post helps you figure out the goal that you want to work towards and achieve. Here is the link to How to Set Goals for Yourself. Let me ask if you are a person that struggles to achieve your goals. A possible reason could be your why is not strong enough. Use me for an example, I have some goals that I'll crush. Then I have others goals I fall a little bit short on and never actually achieve or even look at again. Well, I've discovered that when a goal falls short for me, or off my radar completely. It is for one reason, it's because I did not have a strong enough why. Here’s what I mean, I did not take the time to figure out my why. Why did I want to actually do it or what was gonna change in my life when I actually accomplished that goal.

Circle Back To Your Why

Do you have goals that have fallen off your radar? Now, it's important to circle back to your why and refocus.

For those goals that have fallen off your radar, it's essential to come back to them. Take time to refocus and troubleshoot the obstacles that you have to achieve this goal.

Do you know why you wanted to achieve this goal in the first place? If not, figure out your why. Is that why strong enough to keep pushing you when it gets in the messy middle and it's hard?

Get your homework from last week

Did you get your homework done from last week?

Fantastic, I knew you would.

I'm guessing that you have an exhausting list of how to improve your happiness rating in all the areas of your life.

Here’s the tricky part pick one area in your life to focus on that will increase your happiness rating.

Why do you want to achieve your goal?

In other words, everything starts with why, why do you actually wish to achieve this goal? What is the driving factor that you have behind it? What is your true feeling that you have behind it?

Recently, I came across the book, The Most Powerful Goal Achievement System in the World ™: The Hidden Secret to Getting Everything You Want by Mike Pettigrew.

I love goal setting.

So much so, that it’s an area that I take time to study and master. I find it fascinating the various drivers' individuals have to achieve their goals. Or their process to set their goals.

You must be wondering what is secret to goal setting. According to the book, the hidden secret to getting everything you want is to discover your big why.

He has his readers complete an exercise on how to discover your big why.

Miss Task Blog-22 28-Goal Setting Series II

Be willing to do the work to achieve your goals

You’re going to figure out your big why for your one focus goal. I'm gonna have you do this exact same thing this week. Are you ready?

In the book, and this is so good, Mike has you write out your goal. Simple enough, am I right?

The magic is about to happen, after your goal you will write the words so that.

Again, add the words so that to your reason. You'll continue until you discover your big why.

For example, if your goal is to get 1,000 followers on Instagram. You would write your goal, followed by so that.

My focus goal is to reach 1,000 followers on Instagram so that I can increase my reach. So that I can increase my impact.

You'll keep going with adding, so that until you find your big ultimate, why.

Mike explains that when you drill down through your goal like this, you get to the big why.

You'll become filled with a deeper sense of purpose, connection, energy, and passion for that goal.

How to achieve your goals when it gets tough

You must understand your big why to keep you going when things get a little bit tough.

If achieving goals were easy, we'd all be goal crushers. I am right? When achieving your goal, get hard and you might not be making the progress that you want.

You see it's critical to figure out what your why is for your goal. So this is exactly what I want you to do this week. I want you to drill down into that why you want to actually achieve this goal.

But, there's a catch if you're not able to find a why that fills you with a sense of purpose. You must find a different goal that has meaning for you.

Figure out a goal, that deep down you hold passion to achieve. This is how you achieve your goals. This provides the fuel.

The solution is simple complete your big why exercise. Once you have your goal or desired outcome you're working to achieve drill down into why you want this.

Different types of goals

Now let's break down how I actually see different types of goals. For instance, I've found they fall into different size buckets depending on the goal.

Stick with me here, because this is what I mean. Is it a small, medium, or large goal? Further, another option would be a lifelong goal!

But what exactly is a lifelong goal? Simple, you have a lifelong goal that you're trying to achieve in your life.

Why is that? The timeframe determines the size of the goal, and how long will it take you to reach that outcome.

Let me elaborate if goal setting and achievement are new to you start with a short-term goal. Listen to me, short-term goal.

You don't want it to be too long because it becomes overwhelming for you.

Large goals will make you feel overwhelmed and you'll struggle to achieve them.

Smaller is better because it's going to help build your goal achievement confidence.

Lifelong goals

Here is an example of my lifelong goal. Cause I get it. A true goal is measurable and has a timeframe on them.

My lifelong goal is to live a long healthy, and active lifestyle. I measure this goal by creating what I refer to as micro-goals. Micro-goals determine if I'm staying on track with my lifelong goal.

Why I have these micro-goals, goals need to be measurable by a timeframe.

That's why micro-goals allow you to stay on track toward your lifelong goal as they have an end date.

When you have micro-goals that go along with your lifelong goal, it's milestones to achieve.

How to achieve your big goals with micro-goals

As I mention, living a long, healthy, and active lifestyle is my lifelong goal.

One micro-goal, that I set is exercise. Now for me, exercise is a habit. It's something that I do, as I refer to myself as a person that exercises five days a week.

I'll be honest, I also must switch up my workouts and try new things for it to be exciting.

When I do not check in with myself, it is easy for me to get bored. When I get bored with a workout, exercise begins to feel like a chore.

A micro-goal that I achieved recently was a six weeks pilates challenge with the FitOn app. Here is a link if you'd like to try it out.

When I change my workout routine, it feels fresh and I don't fall off exercising.

Have you ever stopped something that was a habit? It can be so difficult to get back on.

To stay on track, I relate to myself as being somebody that works out five days a week. I set micro-goals with different workouts to make sure it happens. Furthermore, it feels amazing to achieve a goal.
