Waiting to Start? Procrastination

Waiting to Start? Procrastination

Do you have a goal or dream you’ve been waiting to start? When you have more time, you’ve finished your certification, or are you procrastinating? Procrastination is your obstacle to overcome on the way to achieving your goals.

Set to Repeat

Let me guess, you wake up every day with your dream in your heart, thinking that maybe today is the day that you’ll have time to get started. Only to end your day with yet again another day of waiting to start on that goal.

Living each day as if you’re on repeat. Life is happening right now; it’s not three months from now when you’ll have that certification or more time.

Here is the hard truth: you will never have more time. Now, this is important; you’ll still have the same 24 hours in the day that you have now.

When I woke up to this truth, I began to shift. I stopped letting procrastination be my biggest obstacle. After that, I went from hoping something would happen to creating plans and believing it was happening.

You need to do the scary thing to move forward.

The bigger the dream goal, the more the brain will kick in to keep us safe. This is normal. Put it aside and start making your dreams a priority. Choose your goal.

To put it another way, no more choosing the obstacles of procrastination. In the end, the choice is always yours.

By the way, If you need help getting out of the repeat cycle of procrastination, I got you. This is what I do with my private coaching clients. Here is the link to my private coaching application.

Get Crystal Clear

I’m sure you’ve heard it before when you take time to create a plan for what you want to accomplish, you no longer have to try and figure out what to do. Creating plans allow you to make decisions ahead of time.

When we are not clear, it will put us in the procrastination cycle. As a result, our mind begins to feel overwhelmed and out of control with all the decisions. Then it is easier not to do anything at all.

It can be messy when it’s all stuck in your head. All the to-do items floating around that you’d like to get done.

Take time to get it out of your head. Sit down, relax and do a mind sweep of the actions to be done to bring your dreams to life.

Waiting to Start? Procrastination Is Your Obstacle

Create the Map

Then with all your action items, begin to create a road map of all the small steps that you need to do to make it happen.

The trick is to take your list of action items and start to put them in order. Some prefer to reverse engineer the goal, beginning with the end in mind and working backward.

By working backward, you will see a clear vision of all the actions to be done.

Here’s the big secret: block time on your calendar to get the work done. By doing this, you’re creating space in your day to overcome the procrastination obstacle.

Time on your calendar means you know precisely what to do and when. Suddenly, your days will go from waiting to start to doable and done.

Do you have a big goal that you’ve been waiting for more time to start? I invite you back next week as I kick off my series on creating routines to simplify your life to stop being so busy.

When we create routines it helps us to simplify our lives to eliminate everyday decisions and give you more time and brain space to go after your dreams.

Little Side Note

Becoming A Better You

Becoming A Better You

It’s that time of year again when you hear the buzz New Year, New You. In other words, setting resolutions and goals for the new improved vision you have of becoming a better you.

What if

Let me ask, are you in a repeat cycle of starting and stopping? If this is you, you’re not alone. Most give up on themselves after only a few days.

What if this year was the year that you stop stopping? What if this year you stuck to the commitment of becoming a Better You?

What soundtrack do you have?

What does it take to stay the course of becoming a better you?

In order to become a better you, you need to figure out what you do not love about the current you.

What soundtrack do you have playing in your head that is telling you that the current you is not enough?

I know that soundtrack oh so well. You’re not thin enough. You’re not smart enough, You’re not focused enough. Blah, blah, blah.

You’ll probably laugh at me when I say this, because that is what I did I gave out a big old chuckle when that light bulb went off in my head. Those are just thoughts. They really aren't true. Those thoughts could not be proven in a court of law. No matter how much you want to believe they could be.

Becoming a Better You is Scary, AmIright?

It’s all the crap that you have going on between your ears that allows you to throw in the towel and give up.

It’s our limiting thoughts that like to keep us coming back to the same cozy and comfortable place that we have always been. Because that’s all we have known and our minds want to keep us in the place of knowing instead of venturing out into the unknown. Because that is super scary. Right?

Becoming A Better You

Two Goals

Last year. I set two simple goals, just two simple goals so I thought. To complete my Yes Supply Coaching Certification and to upload a new YouTube video every single week. I had the mantra Business is easy when I take messy imperfect action. Do you know what? I’m keeping this mantra in 2022 because it pushed me to do the uncomfortable.

You guessed it, I did both of these.

Did it come with struggles? Oh, you bet it did!

So many times I had to talk myself into recording a video for my YouTube channel. In the beginning, I had my son edit all of them because I knew if I did it I would never, ever publish them.

In the beginning, my enough thoughts were rampant.

But, I kept my head down and stayed true to my word and my commitment to myself. I took action even when I really, really, really, really, really didn’t want to. Trust me there were many times when I didn’t really want to record a YouTube video.

Along the way, I celebrated my progress. I gave myself grace when my limiting thoughts came up.

And I keep going anyway.

I am capable of becoming a better me.

You see, I’m the only one that holds the ability to become a better me.

As much as I’d like to push this off on someone else. It’s me. I’m the only one that can become a better me.

I have to hold the belief that I am capable of becoming a better me.

My Other Goal

You may be wondering about my other goal for last year to finish my Yes Supply Coaching Certification. I did that one too. But getting the certification was the easy part.

Do you want to know the hard part? Self-coaching myself through all the limiting beliefs and garbage thoughts I had swirling around in my head.

I’ve known deep down inside since I started out as a virtual assistant I had a strong desire and inner calling to be a life coach. The problem is I pushed that desire down and covered it up.

Those Dang Limiting Beliefs

I allowed my limiting beliefs to win for years! FOR YEARS!

I allowed them to make me believe that I could not be a life coach. I was so worried about what would people say or what would they think. Oh, look at Michele calling herself a life coach, like the world, needs another life coach. Blah, blah, blah.

I don’t know do you find that same repeat conversion going on in your head?

I know now why. I had to first be my own best coach. I know now why I had to work through my own limiting beliefs. I know now why I had to be my own best client.

The work that I did was teaching me how to coach myself on anything that my creative mind came up with. I finally understand that the good LORD gave me everything I needed to be an amazing life and success coach.

I Found The Proof

If that wasn’t enough, in a search for something else I came across the emails from my friends and clients on My Superpowers.

If anyone has taken Marie Forleo’s B-School you know exactly what I’m talking about. When you send an email to a small number of people that you respect and trust and ask what they believe are your three best, strongest qualities.

These are were the most common qualities that came back to me: great listener, compassionate, giving, helpful, trustworthy.

I don’t know about you, but those are qualities that I look for when I’m hiring my next life and success coach.

My Goal For This Year Is Scary Too

Here it goes, this one is scary for me to share and put other there. This year, the goal on my Magic Chalkboard is to impact 26 lives as a life and success coach through my six-month private coaching.

This goal matters because of the impact it will create. Making an impact on someONE to help them believe they are capable of doing hard things. I want to help 26 people discover they are capable of achieving their dreams. You’re capable of doing the hard thing, they are capable of doing so much more than you give yourself credit for.

I know, if I could coach myself through all the limiting beliefs, self-doubt, and garbage that swirls around in my head, then I know, I KNOW, I can coach anyone else through their garbage and limiting beliefs.

If this is you with a head full of limiting beliefs and garage I invite you to apply to work with me. Apply now!

How to Keep Your New Year Resolutions

How to Keep Your New Year Resolutions

Not sure when you’re reading this blog post the actual go-live date is a full week into January. My question is are you still going strong with your resolutions? If so, woohoo this is your year to stop failing on your resolutions and be part of the elite 8%. This is how to keep your New Year Resolutions.

About the 8%

Because according to research done by the University of Scranton several years ago, they found that 40 percent of American’s make New Year’s resolutions. Still, only 8% keep them longer than a few weeks. Here is the link.

They meant that 92% of the people who set resolutions gave up on themselves.

They give up on dreams they had for their future self.

First, are you even in the 40% club with other Americans that set resolutions. If you are, good for you!

Second, do you fall into the 8%, or are you part of the 92% that stop? If so, why do you give up on your resolutions? Your goals to be a better you? Amiright?

Not one stone

Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m not throwing any stones because I’ve fallen into the 92% camp myself by not following through on every single resolution that I’ve set for myself.

I can almost hear you thinking, really, Michele, why are you even talking about this. Well, my failed resolutions were before I began my growth journey.

Now, I believe that resolutions are not just for a new year; they are meant to be set anytime you want to commit to improving your life.

I was pretty bold

In my January newsletter to my subscribers, I was pretty bold. I stated that there is no use setting resolutions if you do not have a plan to get through the messy middle.

Most people don’t realize that you must create a plan to get through the messy middle when setting resolutions. This is key to how to keep your New Year Resolutions.

The messy middle is when our minds begin to sabotage us.

Now, this is important; we are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit. But our minds, our thoughts, not so much.

They crave safety and comfort.

The problem is the messy middle is when we are full of excuses as to why it's okay to stop. To give in and give up.

The Messy Middle of how to keep your New Year Resolutions

And now, you’re thinking, what the heck how do I get myself through the messy middle?

Let’s talk about how to keep your New Year Resolution.

You begin with giving yourself grace when you slip up. That doesn’t mean failure; that only means feedback.

Do not let your thoughts of comfort and doubt win. They want you to stay right where you’re at.
In the end, that’s not fair to you. As I mentioned above, look at it from the perspective of feedback instead of failure.

Those little slips, write them down. Yes, physically write them down in a notebook. Reframe what happened to what you want to happen the next time.

Reframe Your Failure to Feedback

For example, if you want to start exercising more. You’ve set a reminder in your calendar to work out every single day after work.

Instead of working out, you find yourself on the sofa scrolling through TikTok.

Write down in your notebook the feedback, aka your slip. Today, when I came home from work, I sat on the sofa and scrolled through Tik Tok instead of exercising.

Next, write down the reframe, what you will do instead. When I come home from work, I will change my clothes and exercise.

This is How To Keep Your New Year Resolutions to yourself.

At one little bump in the road, we take the easy path. The flat, easy way. Instead of taking the uphill, difficult pathway to improvement.

In the end, we know if we take the uphill, challenging path, it will come with satisfaction, whereas the flat, easy way comes with regret and disappointment.

How to Keep Your New Year Resolutions

Shift Your Thinking

It is our thinking in our minds that keeps us in the revolving cycle of disappointment.
I want you to step into your future self right now.

It is one year from today, and you stuck with your resolution. What does your life look like?

Now work backward and figure out the plan to get you to where you want to be in one year from now. Do this one step at a time.

What if, instead of choosing to stop, you use the feedback and keep going. How do you feel about yourself for following through?

It is one year from now, and you didn’t stick with your resolution. I’m guessing that you’ll want to try and set the exact old resolution for yourself with the hope that it will be different this year.

And will it? How will it be different this time?

Why not make this year a different year? Do it for you.

If you need a life coach in your corner to work through the messy middle with you. I got you. The link to apply to work with me is below.
