Imposter Syndrome, that feeling of who am I to…

Imposter Syndrome, oh the irony of it all. This was the plan topic for the week. Oh boy, writing this blog post I’ve experienced first hand, imposter syndrome. The feeling of who am I to talk about it. The little voice that chatters away in your head, that sparks the self-doubt. I’m guessing you know what I’m talking about.

Recognize that I’m doing it

This is the biggest thing for me. I need to recognize that I’m doing it. On the days that I film the YouTube video that goes along with my blog post, I like to be with my own thoughts in the morning when I’m getting ready.

But today, I started listening to a podcast on the subject of imposter syndrome. Oh, and I found a wonderful podcast, As a Woman Podcast with Dr. Natalie Crawford. She covered Imposter Syndrome. Here is the link if you'd like to listen yourself. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/imposter-syndrome/id1449553339?i=1000452501510

It’s good, so listen to it. After I finished with this podcast I found myself looking for another one. But, I was heading out on my morning walk with the dogs and after reading the book Get Your Life Back by John Eldredge. https://www.amazon.com/Get-Your-Life-Back-Practices/dp/1400208661

While reading this book, I made the commitment to myself that is my morning pause. This is the time to simply let it go, along with the prayer. “Jesus – I give everyone and everything to you.” Mr. Eldredge recommends that you repeat this until it feels like you’re actually releasing and detaching.

Imposter Syndrome, that feeling of who am I to...

Guess What?

Well, I’m not really going to make you guess but if you did tell me in the comments below or send me a DM on Instagram. That little voice the chatter in my head that I quieted on my super quick as fast as I could walk because it 7 degrees outside pause.

Stopped me in my tracks. It said Michele you’re doing it right now. You’re doubting that you can talk about imposter syndrome. Girl, you can talk about it. You can talk about your own experience and it will be enough for someONE.

Thank you

It was at that moment that, I reframed my thoughts. Thanked me for bringing this to the surface and gave me grace.

That’s not true

Then I began the process of that’s not true. All the limiting beliefs began to string into my head. And as quickly as they popped into my head, I combatted them with “That’s not true. Thanks for keeping me safe through.”

It was in the moment that I had the choice to not hold myself back.

Why can I speak on mindset blocks and entrepreneurship, because Friend, I’ve tried them all and I have the P&L statements to show for it.

Cause when things get going really well in my business. Some limiting beliefs trying to keep me small.

It tries to make me feel like a fraud, that I’m not good enough, that I’m not the right person for the role, or causes me to feel unsure of my own abilities.

That’s not true I am good enough. Somewhere out there is someONE that needs to hear that too.

That’s not true, I am the right person for the role.

That’s not true, I have more than enough knowledge and experience to figure out a solution. And if I get stuck I ask my community of Online Business Managers. Someone will have an idea for me.

This is what I have to say about imposter syndrome.

letting judgment get in the way

Are you letting judgment get in the way of your entrepreneurial dream?

I speak from my own personal experiences with letting judgment get in the way of my entrepreneurial dreams.

It was crippling to the growth of my business when I put more focus on the fear of what others would think, instead of focusing on the impact I could make.

What’s a midwest girl know about running a business anyway? Yep, this is a true thought that my inner voice would throw up at me when I’d get out of my comfort zone.

Embarrassment, Awkward, Worrying

The fear of judgment can make us feel embarrassed, awkward, worried and a number of other feelings that surface for us. All of these emotions get in the way of our happiness and making a true impact.

It can be difficult to overcome that little inner voice in our heads that doesn’t have the same hopes and dreams for our future. It’s okay, that voice is just worried about keeping us safe.

Stop caring what others think

Why do we care what others think so much anyway? Really, do people notice as much as we notice? Hmm, the answer is no.

Let’s face it. That same little inner voice is also always on the lookout for “What’s in it for me”

Really in our small business do we want to work with people that feel the need to judge what we do?

Shouldn’t we care more about the person that feels drawn to us? As, much as I feel the need to be loved by everyone. I know that I’m not everybody’s cup of tea. I continue to do the mindset work to be okay with that. What it all comes down to is, I want to make an impact and provide value to someone. I’ve said it before, the keyword for me is ONE.

I’m pretty sure I’ll never get over caring what other think, I’ve given myself the mindset tools to overcome the fear quicker.

I choose to no longer allow judgment to get in the way of my success. Because business is easy when I take messy imperfect action. That means that I need to emotionally release the judgers. That mindset is what empowers me to stop caring what others think.

Stop judging yourself

Ohh, this is a big one, Friend. Get clear on the items that you’re letting judgment get in the way. Okay, now how are YOU judging yourself regarding this judgment?

We are our own worst enemy. Take a look at yourself and figure out what you’re judging yourself about. Stop it.

That thing, that is getting in the way of our business success. That thing that we feel others judge us on. That’s a mirror into our own self-doubt. Think I’m off my rocker about this?

Get out your journal and I guess we’ll see how off I am. Circle back to me, Friend, tell me what did you discover.

I’ve set the goal to record a YouTube video to go along with my blog post every week. Does this feel easy yet? Heck no. But I know in time and practice, I will not feel so embarrassed, awkward, and worried about what others think.

All those feels that I listed above, are the same things that I think I’m getting judged on. Friends, I’m not foolish enough to believe that I’m not getting judge, but I’m not letting judgment get in the way of creating an impact on one person.

Your own judgments will be mirrored back to you by others. Because it is what you’re looking for, someone to prove you right.

Here is what else I have to say on the judgment.

Be confident

Live your life for yourself. Is it simple to let go of caring what others think? Heck No! Do I still have times when I let silly things keep me up at night worrying what others think? Yes, I do. Anything can seem bigger than it really is if I let my mind spiral.

Private Coaching

Why do I believe in the power of private coaching?

Because it is truly life-changing. When your coach asks you that mind-blowing question that suddenly allows you to see what you've been missing all along that was literally right in front of your face.

You just need someone with a different perspective to help you see it.

Are you ready to experience life from a different perspective?

How to Overcome Failure in Your Business

How to Overcome Failure in Your Business

How to Overcome Failure in Your Business

Have you experienced failure in your business? You’re not alone. Friend, I’ve been there and done that! Do you want to know the best way to overcome failure in your business?

Wait for it.

It’s to change your perception of how you view failure in our online business.

It’s Only Failure When You Stop

Once I learned this simple mindset trick, I was able to overcome my fear of failing. It’s only failure if you stop trying. Failure is not a bad thing. This is not a pass or a fail. It just means you need to look for a new path.

Albert Einstein once said, “You never fail until you stop trying.”

If something isn’t working. Reevaluate and look at the feedback as to why it’s not working. Find a different way. There is always another way to do something.

Proverb 16:9 NRSV
A person’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.

Look for a new path

Look for a new path forward when you come up against a roadblock. That roadblock is not meant to discourage you but challenge you to find another path.

In my NPL certification, it states there is no failure only feedback.

Step back and look at the situation. What did you not see at first? Do a mind sweep of all the possible ways you can find a new way.

When I find myself being a Negative Nancy because it’s not going according to plan, I have to stop myself and say out loud. “That’s not true.”

I reframe the situation in my mind to bring me clarity.

Focus

If that doesn’t work, then I evaluate where I’m focusing my time. Is it moving towards my desired outcome or away.

If the answer is away, my next action will be to figure out how I got off the path to help regain focus and clarity.

Look for time leaks in your day that are causing you to lose focus on your outcome.

Stay in it for the long haul

You deserve to follow through on your promise to yourself. A promise to yourself is just as important as a promise to anyone else. Too often we put our promise behind the promises we give to our clients. That shouldn’t be the case.

When it gets hard look for the reason why, look for ways that you can make it easier.

Trust me I know, I’m the Queen of Complicated.

When I make a plan, I make sure I’m asking could there be an easier way. Is there a place that I could leave a t uncrossed or an i undotted to receive the same results but make it simpler.

Here is the video that goes along with the post. I think I’ve mentioned before I use the same outline for both, but I write and record them separately. Meaning it’s not the same content. Yes, I know there is a simpler way but I like doing it for now.

When you need help with your promise

Have you always struggled with keeping commitments and promises to yourself? LOTS of people do. Have you heard of Gretchen Rubin’s book The Four Tendencies? You may be an Obliger. Take the quiz to find out your personality profile. The Four Tendencies Quiz or read the book, that great too.

If this is you, and you need outside accountability to follow through get yourself an accountability bestie.

Ahem… my Clarity Muse Mentorship may be great for you. js 🥰

A business bestie will keep you going when it gets hard and you want to stop.

As I said previously, stopping only guarantees failure.

But, tell yourself that’s not who you are! You are not a person that stops and gives up. You’re a person that looks at the feedback and keeps going.

We believe whatever we tell ourselves. Make sure it’s what you want and not want you don’t want.

You’re not alone, believe me, Friend, I can get caught in the “don’t want” it’s a practice. When I find myself focusing on what I don’t want, I look at how I can reframe it into what I do want.

Simply flip the script… Just say, that’s not true and express what you want.
